The Murphy Administration today (June 28) announced 38 Local Bridges Fund grants totaling $47.3 million to help counties maintain local bridges in a state of good repair. (More than $3 million was allocated to the bridge over the Great Channel in Stone Harbor.)
“The Local Bridges Fund provides counties with the necessary resources to conduct critical bridge improvements within their jurisdiction while taking the pressure off local property taxes,” Governor Phil Murphy said. “This is one of many crucial needs funded through the Transportation Trust Fund that helps protect and preserve public safety by ensuring that all bridges in New Jersey are maintained in good condition.”
“These critical infrastructure investments improve the reliability of our statewide transportation network and are just one example of the Murphy Administration’s commitment to improving the quality of life in New Jersey,” NJDOT Acting Commissioner Fran O’Connor said. “By providing grants to improve county-owned bridges throughout the state, the Local Bridges Fund demonstrates NJDOT’s commitment to communities.”
This year the Transportation Trust Fund (TTF) is providing $47.3 million for the Local Bridges Fund, which provides funding for each of New Jersey’s 21 counties for the improvement of local bridges. The grants focus on the repair, reconstruction, and replacement of bridges with the greatest structural deficiencies. The grants are administered by the NJDOT Division of Local Aid and Economic Development and evaluated by the Department’s Division of Bridge Engineering and Infrastructure Management. Each year, Local Aid grants represent a significant portion of the Department of Transportation’s support to local communities, which also includes Municipal Aid, local lead projects, regional planning and project development, and transportation alternatives projects.
