Fatal Crash on Route 47 Requires Extraction, Airlift

DENNISVILLE – Dennis Volunteer Fire Company units responded Tuesday, Oct. 15, to a fatal accident on Route 47 in the area of Tyler Road.

According to information released by the fire company, at approximately 12:30 p.m. Dennis fire units were dispatched to the scene, and a short time later a two-vehicle crash just south of Tyler Road, with entrapment, was confirmed. Ocean View Fire was asked to assist with extrication.

Dennis Fire Company’s Squad 18, Engine 18, Brush 18 and Utility 18, with a total of 15 firefighters, were at the scene and extricated one person, who was transported by Inspira EMS to an awaiting medical helicopter at Woodbine Municipal Airport and from there to a hospital. A second person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Route 47 was closed between Tyler Road and Petersburg Road for approximately three hours as crews worked the scene. Ocean View Fire was diverted from the scene to cover Station 18 for the duration of the incident.

AtlantiCare paramedics, Middle Township Fire Police, the state Department of Transportation and the State Police also responded to the scene.

The accident investigation is being handled by the State Police. No other details about the accident were immediately available from authorities.
