The Lower Township Police Department will take part in the federal Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Acme Markets (Bayshore Mall), 3845 Bayshore Road, North Cape May.

The DEA and its partners will collect tablets, capsules, patches and other solid forms of prescription drugs at locations across the country.

For more than a decade, the event has helped Americans rid their homes of unneeded medications – those that are old, unwanted or expired – that too often become a gateway to addiction.

Take Back Day offers free and anonymous disposal of unneeded medications at more than 4,000 drop-off locations nationwide. Since its inception Take Back Day has removed more than 8,300 tons of medication from circulation.

Intravenous solutions, injectables (including EpiPens) and syringes will not be accepted, nor will illicit drugs. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should be tightly sealed in their original containers. Also, batteries, including vape pens with non-removable batteries, and inhalers will not be accepted. DEA will collect vape pens or other e-cigarette devices from consumers only after the consumer removes the batteries from the devices.
