WILDWOOD – An 18-year-old driver from Pitman evaded police in Wildwood before being apprehended on foot in North Wildwood, police said.
The Wildwood Police Department issued a press release saying that on Saturday, May 18, at 11:22 p.m., the department received information about an erratic driver traveling westbound on Spicer Avenue.
A patrol officer arrived in the area and saw a gray Dodge traveling at a high rate of speed toward the intersection of Spicer and New Jersey avenues. The driver failed to stop at the red light at that intersection and continued to travel at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle, a 2006 Dodge wagon, was later found abandoned near 14th and Delaware Avenue in North Wildwood, and the driver, Stephen Carlin, 18, of Pitman, was located on foot near 10th and New York Avenue. Carlin was taken into custody without further incident and transported to police headquarters.
He was charged with second-degree eluding and released on a summons complaint. He also received multiple traffic summonses for reckless driving, failure to signal, failure to use lamps when required, failure to possess a driver’s license, disregarding a stop sign and driving the wrong way on a one-way street.
