WILDWOOD CREST – The Wildwood Crest Recreation Department will host free art classes for children at the Crest Arts Pavilion.

Kids Create at the Crest Arts Pavilion, a three-session free art program for children in grades K-8, will be held each Saturday from 11 a.m. to noon on Nov. 30, Dec. 7 and Dec. 14.

All supplies will be provided. Classes will be led by Russ Simmons, a local artist experienced in teaching beginners’ art classes.

Kids Create at the Crest Arts Pavilion will focus on how a change in view or perspective can add interest to a painting; how to create clean color transitions to paintings; how to create depth within a painting with foreground, middle ground and background and the variations of detail among each level; and the creation of a season image demonstrating the importance of focal point placement and how light dramatically affects the attention of the viewer.

Funding for “Kids Create at the Crest Arts Pavilion” has been made possible in part by the New Jersey State Council of the Arts/Department of State, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Cape May County Board of Commissioners through the Division of Culture & Heritage.

The class is limited to the first 25 registrants. Registration forms are available at the Crest Arts Pavilion (6301 Ocean Avenue) and the Crest Pier Recreation Center (5800 Ocean Avenue). Registration deadline is Wednesday, Nov. 27.
