Widener University Recognizes Wildwood High Schooler with Leadership Award

By Press Release

WILDWOOD – Widener University, one of the nation’s premier universities for civic engagement and applied leadership, in partnership with WCAU-TV NBC10, is proud to recognize Mia Nocho of Wildwood, NJ as a winner of the Widener University High School Leadership Awards.
In its sixth year, the program is recognizing 174 students from high schools throughout the region for their abilities to stand up for what is right, address a wrong and make a difference in their communities or schools.
Nocho, from Wildwood High School, has made a difference by volunteering as a peer leader for younger students and serving as secretary of the school’s National Honor Society. She has also pursued special classes in order to help her brother.
“This year’s group of award recipients is comprised of true leaders who show dedication to not only their hometown communities, but communities around the world.” said Dr. Julie Wollman, Widener University President. “Widener University is committed to developing leaders with strong character who become engaged citizens. Through the High School Leadership Awards, we get the opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the region’s best and brightest future leaders. It is my pleasure to give each student, including Mia, this well-deserved honor.”
Winners are invited to a celebratory breakfast at the National Constitution Center on Thursday, March 23, as well as a leadership conference at Widener University in fall 2017. Most notably, winners will receive a scholarship of $20,000 over four years, should they enroll at Widener University for undergraduate studies.
“NBC10 is proud to recognize this year’s group of students who represent the leaders of tomorrow,” said Ric Harris, President and General Manager of NBC10 and Telemundo62. “These remarkable individuals from across the region have achieved academic excellence while demonstrating integrity and exceptional character for the benefit of their communities.”
