COURT HOUSE — Middle Township is seeking its 2016 Top Dog! The number one canine of 2016 will be showcased on the Middle Township Animal Advisory Board’s web page and featured on various flyers and displays throughout the year. The 2016 Top Dog will be licensed for free in 2016 and take home a “fetching” basket of canine treats. Eligible dogs must have a current rabies vaccination and license.
Residents who wish to nominate their dogs are encouraged to email photographs of the pooches to Dawn Stimmel via dstimmel@middletownship.com by Dec. 1, 2015. Submissions should include the dog’s name, owner’s name, address and phone number. One photo per dog, please. From December 2nd through the 16th, entries will be posted on the Animal Advisory Board’s Facebook page (MTAnimalAdvisoryBoard), where residents are encouraged to give their favorite pup a “paws up.” The canine with the most paws up will be named the 2016 Top Dog. The lucky pup’s caregivers will be awarded the free license and goodie basket at the second Committee Meeting in Jan. 2016. The new year will also bring additional photo opportunities for other pets.
“This is a fun way to get families involved in promoting our rabies vaccination and licensing programs,” Mayor Tim Donohue said. “We can add this to the growing list of innovative projects undertaken by our Animal Advisory Board. So pretty up your pooch and send those pictures in!”
Donohue stated that the Top Dog contest will serve as a reminder to protect dogs with a rabies vaccination and a license. A license advertises that a dog is protected from rabies. It is a ticket home for a lost dog and spares the dog from another vaccination, if s/he happens to be sheltered. License fees provide free rabies vaccinations at community clinics, contribute to a State spay/neuter program and assist in creating emergency and disaster programs.
Middle Township’s next rabies clinic will be held on Jan. 30 at the Martin Luther King Center in Whitesboro, and licenses should be purchased by Jan. 31, 2016. For more information about any of the above, please contact Dawn Stimmel at Town Hall at (609) 465-8732 or dstimmel@middletownship.com.
