Already delighting audiences with her performance as Sophie Greengrass in the current Cape May Stage hit Social Security, Lynn Cohen explores what becomes of Dorothy Gale after leaving Oz in comedian Lewis Black’s one-act play, Dottie’s Home.
Cohen, who played the nanny in Sex and the City and Golda Meir in the film Munich, and whose performance at Cape May Stage earned a rave review in Philadelphia Inquirer last week, will present a reading of Black’s dark comedy on Aug. 10 at 8 p.m. at The Robert Shackleton Playhouse, Bank and Lafayette sts.
Before becoming widely known for his appearances on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show and his stand-up comedy, Black was a playwright with a unique perspective.
Mixing his distinctive humor with an offbeat premise, Black provides an epilogue to the story of Dorothy, perfectly portrayed by Cohen in this outlandish piece.
Cohen’s film and TV credits include Eagle Eye, Charlie Kaufman’s Synecdoche, New York, Woody Allen’s Manhattan Murder Mystery, Julie Taymor’s Across the Universe, Tim Robbins’ Cradle Will Rock, all three Law and Orders, Damages, the upcoming HBO series Nurse Jackie and films Everything’s Fine with Robert De Niro, and The Extra Man with Kevin Kline.
Black performs over 200 nights a year to sold out audiences throughout Europe, New Zealand, Canada, and The United States. In 1996, Black’s first stand-up segment, a three-minute rant about whatever was bothering him at the moment, ran on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show.
This evolved into Back in Black and became one of the most popular and longest running segments on the show.
Tickets are $8 and can be reserved by calling 609-884-1341 or visiting www.capemaystage.com.
This performance contains adult language. Audio enhancement, wheelchair accessible seating, and large print programs are available with advance notice by calling the box office.
