Susan G. Komen Central and South Jersey Receives $6,000 Donation

By Press Release

CAPE MAY – Susan G. Komen Central and South Jersey (Komen CSNJ) was awarded a $6,000 donation as the charity recipient of the 2017 Wayne Williams Golf Classic, an annual golf fundraiser held by Village Super Market ShopRite, Oct. 10 at Sand Barrens Golf Club in Cape May. Village ShopRite presented the check to Komen CSNJ at the event, raised by golfers, event sponsors and vendors.
The donation held special meaning during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time dedicated to promoting awareness of this disease and taking action to end it forever.
“We are honored to have been chosen as this year’s Wayne Williams Golf Classic charity recipient, a fundraiser that has made a difference in the lives of so many people,” stated Suzanne Corson, executive director of Komen CSNJ, in a release. “These funds will support our mission to save lives by meeting the most critical needs in our communities and investing in breakthrough research to prevent and cure breast cancer.”
The Village Fall Classic, which started as a Village ShopRite golf outing, was renamed the Wayne Williams Fall Classic to honor the longtime supervisor after the company lost him 19 years ago. The classic helped to support Wayne’s children through college.
After Wayne’s children graduated college, the classic’s proceeds went to support other organizations. This year in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month went to Susan G. Komen.
“We have so many of our own associates affected by breast cancer, and we are proud to donate the funds to Susan G. Komen,” stated Amanda Fischer, director of Business Relations for Village Super Market. “We’re happy that they not only provide funds for research but work to support local programs for those fighting and their families.”
