Wildwood Catholic’s Got Talent

Wildwood Catholic High School’s Student Council hosted its Third Annual Talent Show in the school auditorium on Feb. 4. The mid-winter variety show not only showed off students’ musical, comedic, singing, and dancing talents, but also raised money for the Mr. Wildwood Catholic scholarship competition slated for March 9.
Student Council moderator Mary Walsh produced the one hour show, which featured ten performances by twenty participants. Singing acts included: a rendition of “Almost Lover” by juniors Deanna Adair and Sarah Herforth; a performance of “Change” by sophmore trio: Tori Bischoff, Leatrice Spiewak, and Paige Philips; and a solo presentation of “Magic” by senior Jessica Wheaton. Dances were performed by: juniors Morgan Kimmerle (acro-gymnastic), Frankie Kelleher (modern), and Paula Tramutolo (Middle Eastern). Juniors, Kayla Cluff and Brittany Camper, finished the dance segment with a hip-hop take on a well-known Beyonce Knowles routine.
Music numbers were also part of the show. Junior, Mike Walsh and freshman, Westin Scott held a thumping drum battle, and a hastily assembled rock and roll band, featuring juniors, Chad Alvarado, M.J. Nestor, and Mike Walsh on guitar and sophomore David Von Savage on drums brought the night to a rocking finish.
The evening’s central act was a spoof of “American Idol” in which Sean O’Brien as Ryan Seacrest introduced would be “idols” Peter DalSanto, Sarah Visalli, and Sarah Herforth, who nervously sought the approval of dead-on celebrity judge impersonators Brittany Camper (Randy Jackson), Paula Tramutolo (Paula Abdul), and Jim Norris (Simon Cowell).
But unlike “American Idol” everyone who performed (and attended) the event went home a winner.
