17 people recently completed the four-year plumbing apprenticeship at the Cape May County Technical School, a program that requires a minimum of 576 classroom hours and 8,000 hours of on-the-job training.
They received certificates from the U.S. Department of Labor, the New Jersey Department of Workforce Development and the Technical School. Apprenticeship completion is a requirement for eligibility to take the Master Plumbers licensing examination.
The plumbing apprenticeship instruction program is held two nights a week for four years. Dick Layton, the program instructor who also teaches the heating, cooling, plumbing and electrical class at the Technical High School, was recognized for his contributions and the excellent completion rate of his class. Special recognition was given to Georgianna Monahan, a certified Sign Language interpreter, for her service with one of the apprentices who is hearing impaired and also for the additional support that she provided to the program.
Certificates of Completion for the Plumbing Apprenticeship Related Training were awarded by Ralph Bakley, Cape May County freeholder liaison to the Technical School District, Robert Boyd, member of the school’s Board of Education and Robert Matthies, Superintendent of the district.
