Dress for Donations
Last week, one of our teachers lost her home in a fire. To help this teacher and her family after the tragedy, the elementary and middle schools had several theme days in which students dressed in all sorts of odd fashions and donated a dollar to the cause.
On “Twin Tuesday”, everyone saw double as middle/elementary school students were encouraged to find a buddy and dress alike for the day.
Wednesday was too wacky to be simply Wednesday, so we called it “Wacky Wednesday”. And indeed a wacky day it was. We observed students wearing things like antennae headbands, clashing colors, and brightly colored wigs.
Thursday was “Theater Thursday”, and students dressed as their favorite characters from books, TV shows or movies, such as Romeo from Romeo and Juliet, or as that pale guy from Twilight. We even had Elle Woods from Legally Blond and Hamlet himself from Hamlet!
The last day to donate was “Freaky Friday”. On this day, all the students dressed up like teachers, and the teachers dressed up like students
As a school, we raised over $1,000 for this cause. Thanks so much for your support and donations…not to mention all of those fabulous outfits!

Lower Cape May Regional High School
Lower Cape May Regional High School’s advanced art students are again participating in an annual art show at the Mad Batter Restaurant, 19 Jackson Street, in Cape May.
Teacher Patricia Neville is delighted that the Mad Batter has invited the students to return. She describes the show as “based on student’s views of traditional still-life paintings incorporating atypical juxtapositions and analogous color themes. Having the opportunity to participate in a public show is a wonderful experience for students who will pursue careers in art. Plus it’s a showcase for the talent that we have in our community.”
The opening reception for the show will be held on Sunday, February 13 from 3pm to 5pm. This show is part of the Second Sunday Gallery Walk, a partnership of several of Cape May’s galleries. The show will be open from February 9th until March 9th.
The students will also have hand painted T-shirts for sale to benefit the Center of Community Arts youth art program. Participating students include Frankie Gibson, Lilli Loper, Chandler Altieri, Kim Castellucci, Ashley Bresan, JJ Leahy, Dan Rossi, Dylan O’ Donnell, Ally Cook, Carly Crisanti, Maryssa Hill, Miranda Becica, Kalyn Magee, Brent Adkins, Rachel Giannini, Holly Frame, Josh Dickenson, Shannah Rose, Susie Booth, Kelsey Rack, Desiree Hartman, Abigal Dietz, Erin Mayer, Danielle Hickman, Emily Gittle, Kelsey Rack, Robin Giannini, Julie Denham, Erin Mayer, Emily Corlett and Madison Grace.
Margaret Mace
A Health Fair will be presented by the Parish Nurse Program from Cape Regional Medical Center on February 4, from 3-4 p.m. There will be free blood sugar screening, as well as a free blood pressure screening, free cholesterol screening and fracture risk screening.
In other Margaret Mace news, Mrs. Clarke’s and Mrs. Golden’s Kindergarten classes recently went on a field trip to their local supermarket, Superfresh! Ms. Karen and other Superfresh staff members gave the children a very detailed and informational tour of the supermarket. The children were able to view each department and learn very interesting facts. They were even able to touch a lobster in the Seafood Department and decorate (and eat) a cupcake in the Bakery Department!
MMS kindergarten would like to thank Superfresh for their wonderful visit!
Stone Harbor
Lt. Bradley Mohr (Somers Point), a U.S. Marine on the front lines in Afghanistan, requested help in equipping two medical clinics so that the Marines could help Afghan people. A recent article in The Press of Atlantic City explained that, “The Marines are making friends with the Afghanis by helping them with their medical problems”. A list of needed items was included in the article.
The Stone Harbor Kindergarten collected everything on Lt. Bradley Mohr’s list. Two boxes were mailed on January 19.
