Cape Christian Academy
Representatives from Bob Jones University, a Christian college from Greenville, South Carolina, recently visited the high school students of Cape Christian Academy. This special ministry team, made up of six individuals, all with math or science-related degrees, gave a robotics presentation in two, 2-hour sessions. Students were divided into teams of 3 to build robots and then present them to the entire group.
Though this is the first time this team has visited CCA, this is the fourth such team from BJU, each of which devote an entire semester traveling to various Christian high schools throughout the country. The purpose of the presentation, other than the promotion of BJU, is to encourage the global field of science and technology, especially when studied from a Christian perspective. Representatives included personal testimony of their Christian faith.

A new 4-H Robotics program, led by Administrator, John Spriggs, is now being held at Cape Christian Academy, Tuesdays from 3:30-5pm. All students from the community, currently in grades 4 through 12, are welcome to join.

Dennis Township
Kylie Graham, the 1st place winner of the 22nd Annual My County Poster Contest was the guest of honor in her Dennis Township Elementary School Homeroom on April 24 for a pizza party with her 20 classmates hosted by Cape May County’s Constitutional Officers, Sheriff Gary G. Schaffer, County Clerk Rita Marie Fulginiti, and Surrogate M. Susan Sheppard. The highlight of the lunchtime celebration was the arrival of Chief Joseph Beisel with Sheriff’s Officer Dodge, the quarter horse, whose duty is to patrol the County Park Zoo. After lunch Graham and her classmates learned about Dodge and each had an opportunity to pet the horse.
In regards to the recent Dennis Township 7th grade fieldtrip to Washington D.C., a catchphrase from a 1980’s TV show must be used: “I love it when a plan comes together. “ The weather couldn’t have been finer or the students more enthused as they traveled from one end of The Mall area to the other.
Walking groups of seven to eight students and a faculty chaperone began their visit to our nation’s capital at the Capitol Building and the Library of Congress. Seventh grader Matt Herron was especially pleased to see Thomas Jefferson’s Library, which houses Jefferson’s books bought by Congress in the early 1800s. “It was cool to see such old books,” Herron said. “And since they were Thomas Jefferson’s, that makes them even better.”
Another favorite was a special tour of the Capitol, courtesy of the uncle of seventh grader Isabella Roache. Isabella phoned her uncle, a police officer in the Capitol, and he swept several walking groups inside, where students were able to stand behind the podium in the Senate and have their pictures taken.
Visits to the Smithsonian museums were also greatly enjoyed, with a few exhibits jumping out as favorites. Dorothy’s ruby slippers and The Star Spangled Banner in the National Museum of American History were mentioned several times by many young ladies, such as Alena Himstedt.
One lucky seventh grader, Mikey Bryan, celebrated his birthday while in Washington and said his favorites were the World War Two Memorial with its fountains and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial with its wall of names.
This was the seventh annual trip to Washington, which was originally planned in 2008 by Kathy Turcotte and coordinated thereafter by Alexis Flack, and then most recently by Amanda Unkle.
