OCEAN CITY – Widener University, one of the nation’s premier universities for civic engagement and applied leadership, in partnership with WCAU-TV NBC10, is proud to recognize the winners of the 2018 Widener University High School Leadership Awards.
In its seventh year, the program is recognizing 175 students from high schools throughout the region for their abilities to stand up for what is right, address a wrong and make a difference in their communities or schools.
The recipients include:
Nora Faverzani of Ocean City, NJ, 08226. Faverzani attends Ocean City High School and has made a difference by tutoring middle school students with their studies and serving as a youth leader for her church.
Gianna Cianci of Wildwood, NJ, 08260. Cianci attends Wildwood High School and has made a difference by accepting everyone for who they are and being inclusive of everyone around her.
“Through the High School Leadership Awards, Widener University has the unique opportunity to celebrate students in our region who make a difference by demonstrating notable leadership,” said Dr. Julie Wollman, Widener University President. “This year we are honored to recognize students who embody our university’s core principals of character and leadership to make a difference in their own communities. I look forward to celebrating all of the 2018 High School Leadership Award recipients at our upcoming awards ceremony.”
Winners are invited to a celebratory breakfast at the National Constitution Center on March 13, 2018, as well as a leadership conference at Widener University in fall 2018. Most notably, winners will receive a scholarship of $20,000 over four years, should they enroll at Widener University for undergraduate studies.
“NBC10 is proud to partner with Widener University to recognize this group of incredible high school students who have demonstrated integrity, leadership and character for the betterment of their communities,” said Ric Harris, President and General Manager of NBC10 and Telemundo62. “The High School Leadership Award recipients are champions in their own communities and I am confident they represent the future leaders of our society.”
