By Press Release

WILDWOOD CREST – The student council at Crest Memorial School collected more than 1,700 non-perishable food and personal items during a two-week food drive, the proceeds of which will be donated to needy residents of the Wildwoods.
The annual food drive at the school was coordinated by the student council and students in preschool through eighth-grade, as well as staff, participated by donating items. The seventh-grade students in Mr. Wayne Rowe’s homeroom collected the most items and will receive a pizza party as a reward for their generosity.
In addition to collecting the canned goods from each homeroom, student council members, under the guidance of teacher Terry Matthews, counted and sorted the 1,700 items. Crest Memorial School has been holding a holiday food drive for more than 15 years.
In past years the items collected have been donated to the United Way of Cape May County, which distributed food and personal goods to those who needed them. This year, however, the food was donated to Lazarus House, the only food bank now operating in the Wildwoods, which is run by an ecumenical organization.
