By Press Release

WILDWOOD – The Vigil Mass of the Assumption with Diocese of Camden Bishop Dennis J. Sullivan as the main celebrant was celebrated  Aug. 14 at St. Ann Church, Wildwood.
The 4:30 p.m. Mass was followed by a procession of the faithful along the street to the ocean. Center point of that procession was a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary that was carried onto the beach.
The bishop boarded a Wildwood lifeguard boat that was rowed over the breakers. Once past the white caps, the bishop tossed a floral ring into the sea as a part of the ceremony of the Wedding of the Sea.
Aug. 15 is the Feast of the Assumption. Bishop Sullivan was to celebrate Mass in Atlantic City on that day to mark the feast day of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary into Heaven upon her death.
