RIO GRANDE – On Aug. 28, Catholic Charities, Diocese of Camden will host an open house at its local center, one of eight it operates across South Jersey.
The social services agency operates a Family and Community Services Center in each of the six counties that comprise the Diocese: Cape May, Atlantic, Camden, Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem counties.
The local office will host its open house Aug. 28, 4-6 p.m. Village Shoppes, 1304 Rt. 47 South, Unit C1, Rio Grande.
The open houses are one of the highlights of Catholic Charities’ 40 Days of Francis campaign, a countdown to the visit of Pope Francis in Philadelphia.
The goal of 40 Days of Francis is to help South Jersey parishioners and residents prepare for Pope Francis’ visit by becoming more aware of the poverty in the region and ways to help.
At each open house, visitors will have the opportunity to meet Catholic Charities’ staff and learn about the programs and services it offers in their community and how they can get involved. Guest speakers will talk about the ways Catholic Charities has impacted their lives, and there will be food, a service project activity, and an opportunity for spiritual reflection.
“We hope these events will be fun opportunities for us to reach out to the communities where we serve, and in particular the parishioners of the Diocese of Camden who support our work,” stated Kevin Hickey, executive director of Catholic Charities in a release. “Inspired by the Pope’s message of care for our brothers and sisters who are struggling, we hope to similarly inspire those who visit us this week. All are welcome.”
Catholic Charities invites all who are interested to join them at one of these events and learn more about how they can help untie the knots of poverty in South Jersey.
