Cape May Loses Larry Muentz, Innkeeper, Web Guru

CAPE MAY- Friends of Larry Muentz will remember him as spokesman for Cape May tourism, talk show host, Web guru and innkeeper of Alexander’s Inn.
Muentz, 71, of Cape May, died suddenly Mon., Nov. 28. Larry was born in Philadelphia, PA on Nov. 29, 1940 to the late Otto C. Muentz and Elvera (nee Schuck) Muentz. He graduated from Camden Catholic High School in 1958 and later attended Rutgers University.
Muentz honorably served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Randolph and toured Pakistan, Ethiopia and Egypt. He worked as a sales representative for the Xerox Corporation for 15 years before retiring in 1980.
Larry and his wife, Diane purchased Alexander’s Restaurant in Cape May in 1978 and shortly thereafter operated the business as an inn. While in Cape May, he enjoyed hosting his own radio show called “The Soap Box with Larry Muentz” with his dedicated listeners known as “Muentz-sters”.
Muentz was an active member of the Greater Cape May Chamber of Commerce and held various positions within the organization. He was also a member of the Republican Club.
Mayor Edward J. Mahaney Jr. said Muentz was a very vibrant and involved member of the community. The mayor said Muentz “contributed mightily to civic and business organizations over the years.”
John Cooke, president of the Chamber of Commerce of Greater Cape May, said Muentz served as a vice president of the organization and was one of the most passionate people for causes surrounding or affecting Cape May businesses.
Larry is survived by wife of 43 years, Diane (nee Redmond); son, Alexander and his wife, Kathleen Auerhahn of Philadelphia; two sisters, Marie (and Dan) Morgan and Inez Kotch; brother, Robert Muentz; two uncles, Charles and Joseph Schuck; aunt, Nancy Maxwell
A memorial gathering will take place on Fri. Dec. 2 from 10 a.m. to noon at the LaMer Hotel (on the 3rd floor), corner of Pittsburgh Ave. and Beach Dr., Cape May where the family will receive friends.
