OCEAN CITY – Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian is scheduled to present an American flag to members of local American Legion Post 524 as they kick off the first of three grand openings for their new building at 46th Street and Bay Avenue April 7.
Following the transfer of The Colors at the Welcome Center on the Route 52 Causeway at 11:45 a.m., a procession including an Ocean City Police vehicle, the Somers Point Legion Riders motorcycles and an Ocean City Fire Department truck will accompany Post 524 commanders as they arrive at the new Post building for the raising of the flag and a ribbon cutting ceremony.
While this initial event is intended for members only, a April 14 gathering act as a thank you to local and state dignitaries who supported the nearly four-year project, and April 28 will focus on building contractors.
Ocean City’s Post 524 is one of the most active American Legion Posts in New Jersey, with a growing membership numbering 425 Legionnaires, 150 Auxiliary members and 125 Sons of the American Legion. The organization’s motto is “Veterans Serving Veterans.”
