Did you know that just like snowflakes, no two cows have the same pattern of spots? Perhaps you did, and you’re a livestock expert, or maybe you just learned something new. Regardless of prior livestock knowledge, everyone is welcome in 4-H. If you have ever wanted to learn more about livestock, be more involved in your community or even participate in a county fair, Milkyways Livestock 4-H Club is for you. With teamwork-building local service projects to rewarding campground visits, there is never a dull moment for a member of the Milkyways.
This year, the club has participated in a wide array of events, such as participating in Christmas parades atop a float, creating exhibits for haunted walks, participating in local community cleanups and bringing animals to local campgrounds such as Beachcomber Campground. There will always be something to spark a member’s interest.
Every meeting is packed with different activities to expand your knowledge of animals while having fun and making friends. “We’re a close group of friends who like to have fun and work hard so that 4-H can continue to make the best better. We have a great week at the fair with our animals, family and friends,” says Jimmy Papperman, age 17.
Contact Marcie Hughes, Club Leader, and ask her about attending our next meeting, which is open to new members. We meet the second and fourth Thursdays of every month and currently have members from fifth grade all the way to one year out of college. One member, Sage Wilson, recently joined after her close school friend, Lexa Anaya, age 13, brought her to attend a meeting. “We became friends in school while I was in the club and I encouraged her to join.”
If you’re hesitant that Milkyways may not be the best extracurricular activity for you or your child, come check us out at this year’s 4-H Fair. Club members are always around the barns or up at our polka dot booth selling ice cold water and a frozen treat, and are more than happy to tell you just what it means to be a Milkyway. Don’t be surprised when they tell you fun, fun and more fun!
