Mahaney and LoBiondo Host Park Bench Dedication at Cape May Post Office

CAPE MAY The City of Cape May dedicated four new park benches to the Cape May Post Office June 20, 2016. The beautiful benches can be found along Washington Street in front of the City’s Post Office building.
At the dedication, Cape May Mayor Edward Mahaney was accompanied by Rep. Frank A. LoBiondo and local postmasters. “These benches are for your enjoyment, for every resident and every visitor,” Mahaney said. The mayor expressed his gratitude for the City’s Garden Club for enhancing the landscape, as well as LoBiondo for his continued support of the City’s efforts, including supporting the City’s Coast Guard Base and having Cape May recognized by the United States Congress as a Coast Guard Community, as well as supporting more than $14 million in regular beach replenishments and $3 million spent specifically on American With Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements throughout the City. Said Cape May Postmaster Peggy Clifford: “The benches will beautify our city as well as benefit those that come to enjoy our city.”
The Cape May Post Office has been a government building for 78 years, first opening in 1938. The post office has a total of 49 employees, 18 delivery routes, and more than 13,000 customers. On average, a driver delivers to from 800-1200 houses, depending on the time of year. The post office delivers to both rural areas, from West Cape May to Rio Grande, and city, encompassing all of Cape May. Beginning in October the post office will deliver AmazonFresh, which includes next-day and early-morning deliveries of fresh grocery items and essential products.
