ERMA – Beginning Nov. 1, for the month of November, the Lower Township Police Department, along with many other agencies across the county, will be participating in “No-Shave November.”
One of the goals of “No-Shave November” is to raise cancer awareness by embracing hair (which many cancer patients lose) and letting it grow wild and free, according to a release.
Another goal is to use the money donors typically would spend on shaving and grooming, to educate about cancer prevention, save lives and aid those fighting the battle.
All proceeds of this event will be donated to Richard Burrows. He is 37-year-old family man with two children. Burrows is an Army veteran who served in Iraq 2003 – 2004.
He was diagnosed with a primary brain tumor called anaplastic oligodendroglioma. The tumor is considered an aggressive cancer. This initiative will help pay for his medical bills and treatment.
So, the public sould not be shocked when they see one of the department’s local officers sporting a beard, goatee or a longer than usual hair length, it’s all for a great cause.
If anyone else would like to donate to this worthy cause, the department will also be collecting donations through Nov. 30. All money collected will go directly to Burrows.
Checks can be made out to the Cape May County (CMC) Chiefs of Police Association with “No-Shave Burrows” in the memo.
Those donations can be dropped off or mailed to the Lower Township Police Department at 405 Breakwater Road, Erma, NJ 08204. For more information about the program, visit the website at https://no-shave.org/.
