Humane Society of Ocean City to Participate in HomeAgain Contest

By Press Release

OCEAN CITY — The Humane Society of Ocean City (HSOC) is participating in a contest sponsored by HomeAgain®, a lost pet recovery service that maintains a pet microchip database. The HomeAgain Helps contest features a grand prize of $25,000 plus Merck animal health and technology products. HSOC is seeking nominations to be considered for one of five finalist positions. Nominations are open until Aug. 14, 2015 and can be submitted at www.homeagainhelps.com/nominate.
“We provide microchips on all of our animal residents and provide them on every adoption,” said Bill Hollingsworth, HSOC Executive Director, Chief Animal Cruelty Investigator, and Animal Control Officer. “Additionally, we are the only shelter in New Jersey and only one of 30 in the country to provide the full range of services, some of which include an adoption facility, affordable spay/neuter services and behavioral programs, our Vet Center, and indoor feral cat colony housing.”
HSOC also provides animal control services, including two certified Animal Cruelty Investigators, for the Ocean City community to provide animal rescue when needed as well as disaster relief.
As part of the nominating process, nominators are asked how the selected organization should spend the awarded grant money. Hollingsworth explained, “We would use the funds to retrofit our cat room with habitats that would provide both our adoptable cats and resident feral cats with more room and comfort. The funds would also allow us to purchases new equipment needed for sick-bay to help reduce disease transmission. Plus we could finally redo our kennel structure with new fencing and improve the interior of our dog runs.”
HSOC is a private, nonprofit “no-kill” adoption center that includes the Veterinary Center, offering affordable veterinary services and spay/neuter clinics to residents of Ocean City and surrounding communities. HSOC has been serving the community for over 50 years with pet adoption, veterinary care, and animal control services.
