PETERSBURG — The Historic Society of Upper Township is having a most interesting program on Tues., April 12. One of its members, Mike Horan, has arranged a program which will be about the restoration of the AJ Meerwald. Mike himself is involved in this project.
The AJ Meerwald is NJ’s Official Tall Ship, built in 1928 as an oyster schooner. It was taken over by the Navy during WW2 and used as a Fire Boat in the Delaware River. Meghan Wren started the rebuilding of it. Her husband, Jesse Briggs, is the Captain. Either one or both might be the guest speaker(s) at the meeting. The boat has returned to Yank’s Boat Works in Tuckahoe for more repairs during dry-dock.
As always the meeting will be held at the Upper Township Library. Refreshments start at 7:00 p.m. with the program beginning at 7:30. Guests are always welcome.
