Growing Sprouts, a 4-H CloverBud Club for children in grades kindergarten through 3rd grade, meets at the Lower Cape Library.
Growing Sprouts was very busy this year. We started the year off by getting to know one another by tracing our partner’s body outline on a piece of large paper and labeling the body parts. This allowed the children to look at the different body parts and see how they use them in everyday life and how the Head, Heart, Hand and Health are important in our 4-H Pledge. Over the holidays our club made a Thankful Hand Wreath. The children wrote the month on each hand and wrote one thing that they were thankful for in that month. In January, we talked about the weather and made a snowstorm in a bottle. In the spring, Alyssa, a member of our club, showed us how to make a plant holder out of newspaper that can be put in the ground and is biodegradable. She also showed us how to make dirt from leaves and twigs. In June, we talked about the rocket shot from Wallops Island, Va. The children learned about the parts of a rocket and what different rockets are used for. We made a rocket out of construction paper and counted down our homemade rockets for blast off, then we made a rocket out of marshmallows and ate them.
We had a very exciting year and we look forward to starting again in September. If you know of a child in kindergarten, 1st, 2nd or 3rd grade and they like to make crafts, bring them by to one of our meetings at the Lower Cape Library. I promise they will have a great time while learning about the 4-H program. You can contact the 4-H office at (609) 465-5115 to find out more!
