Festival looking for a few good chowders

By On Deck Staff

The 13th annual Cape May Food & Wine Festival, sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts (MAC) is looking for participants to cook-up their best chowder recipes.
Put your chowder to the ultimate challenge at the People’s Choice Chowder Contest, a highlight of the Cape May Food & Wine Festival’s Gourmet Marketplace, Sept. 20 at the Cape May Winery, 711 Town Bank Road in North Cape May.
Local chefs, restaurants and businesses are invited to submit their chowders in the contest. Only chowders from professional chefs affiliated with restaurants and businesses (no homemade chowders) can be accepted.
The People’s Choice Chowder Contest features a variety of chowders from which visitors can sample. People can vote for their favorite by dropping a ticket stub in the corresponding collection jar.
All proceeds benefit the Kiwanis Club of Cape May, which supports children and young adults in need.
Past winners have included the Blue Pig Tavern, the Wildwood Country Club, Cucina Rosa, Bella Mangiata Ristorante, as well as last year’s chowder champion, Aleathea’s Restaurant at the Inn of Cape May.
