Teacher’s Aide, Farmer Bowls Perfect Game

Charles Taylor

By Thomas Higgins

COLD SPRING – Little did Charles Taylor know as he stood at the line preparing to bowl the first frame at a Woodbine bowling alley Dec. 14, that this night was going to be the night that he bowled a perfect game.
This milestone in Taylor’s life comes after 30 years of bowling. Taylor said, “I began bowling in the late 1980s and had a 140 average at the time.”
Taylor, who bowls in two leagues, sports a 200 average with previous high scores of 280, 289, and 290. When asked what made this night different from other nights, Taylor said, “The pins just fell.”
According to Taylor, he had two bad frames where he threw a “brooklyn” and “head-on” balls but overcame these subtle errors to win his way to a 300 game.
When Taylor, a teacher’s aide at Lower Cape May Regional High School, where he has been employed for 12 years, informed his students he had bowled a perfect game, the students erupted into applause and congratulations, the common phrase being, “Way to go, Mr. Taylor.”
Taylor, 48, is a life-long resident of Cold Spring and is the owner, and operator of No Frills Farm, located at the foot of the Cape May Canal bridge leading into West Cape May.
