COURT HOUSE — Sheriff Gary Schaffer announced on Feb. 4 that three officers assigned to the Cape May County Correctional Center have successfully graduated from the 18th Corrections Officer Class of the Atlantic County Police Training Center. The following officers successfully completed the New Jersey Police Training Commission requirements to be certified as county correctional officers:
Officer David C. Douglass, Jr., son of David C. Douglass, Sr., a Lower Township Police Officer killed in the line of duty February, 1994
Heather C. Johns, granddaughter of retired Wildwood Crest Police Chief Carl Hudson
Amy C. Maguire, who was formerly employed by the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office in the victim/witness office.
Douglass was the recipient of the Physical Training Award, having finished first in his class in physical conditioning.
Johns was the recipient of the “Intensity” Award” the award given to the officer with the most drive, ambition and determination to succeed.
Schaffer said, “I am extremely proud of these officers and their individual accomplish-ments while at the academy and now look forward to them becoming part of an outstanding team of correctional officers from the Sheriff’s Office. We have the most dedicated group of officers at our correctional center who not only give over 100 percent to their job but are also involved individually and as a group in many organizations and charity events that benefit our community.”
All three officers are assigned to squads in the Cape May County Correctional Center and will begin a field training officer program.
