Middle Mayor Tosses First Pitch of ’11 Season

By Al Campbell

COURT HOUSE — There was a “ping” in the air all across the Davies Sports Complex Sat., April 30. That was opening day for Middle Township Baseball and Softball Association.
Mayor Susan DeLanzo threw the first pitch of the season, followed by Deputy Mayor F. Nathan Doughty representing Sturdy Savings Bank and Kevin Rosensteel representing Burke Motor Group.
Michelle Dawn Mooney, newscaster from WMGM TV-40 sang “God Bless America” and the “Star Spangled Banner.”
Pastor Keith Strunk offered a prayer.
Frank Dougherty led all the youngsters in the Little League Pledge. Glenn Wyatt, association president, gave a brief address to the youngsters, and thanked those who helped make the day possible.
A homespun tradition, kept alive by Doughty, was the singing of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.” Assisting him was Mooney and the crowd of parents and well-wishers in the stand.
After the formal opening ceremonies of the season, a dedication ceremony was held on the recently refurbished Field 4.
Once the big red ribbon was cut, games were played throughout the day on all available baseball diamonds.
