WHITESBORO — Stedman Graham, author, educator and entrepreneur will conduct a Who Are You – Leadership Development Program for men and boys at Christ Gospel Church on Sept. 1 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
All men and boys from Cape May County are welcome.
The program is offered through The Concerned Citizens of Whitesboro, Inc. in conjunction with the annual Whitesboro Reunion Festival.
It will be hosted by Bishop Edgar D. Robinson Jr., and is based on Graham’s book, Who Are You? A Success Process for Building Your Life’s Foundation.
Included in the program will be a workshop facilitated by Graham, and a panel discussion.
The panel will consist of men from the county whose stories and insights will resonate with young participants.
“Too many young men and boys are in crisis,” according to a release.
“They are far more likely than females to be sent to prison, to fall victim to homicide, to suffer serious illness, to fail at school and to be unemployed. Between 1980 and 2000, three times as many African American men were added to the nation’s prison systems than were added to colleges during the last two decades,” it continued.
The Who Are You program “will help to enable young men – or ‘teach them to fish’ – so they may become self-sufficient, and sustain progress and success,” the release stated.
In the program young men will learn that the greatest opportunity in life is to have a sense of who they are. The freedom that comes with finding out who they are is their foundation, and a gift that allows them to pursue a life that is fulfilling, meaningful, and rewarding, the release stated.
Most people take years trying to figure out just who they are, but too many will never find out, it stated.
The program teaches people to have an identity and a strong foundation for developing the leadership and living skills that form the basis for academic and workforce success.
It will help participants learn the process of how to break free from negative patterns and change the way they think and feel about themselves and their possibilities.
Graham, a native of Whitesboro, says, “When we learn to process and think, we take ownership of our lives. Regardless of how someone else defines us, we’re able to take control of our future, and that’s a gift of freedom we give to ourselves.”
“The time for helping, instructing and guiding our young boys and men is now. It is an investment into our future that can have a positive impact on all generations to come,” added Robinson.
