WEST CAPE MAY – The West Cape May Volunteer Fire Company Boy Scout Troop 73 is proud to announce that three of its scouts have recently advanced to the rank of Eagle Scout. The Eagle award is the highest and most coveted rank in Scouting. Among the requirements are earning at least 21 badges, serving in a leadership position within your troop while a Life Scout, and planning, developing, and completing a community service project worthy of an Eagle Scout.
The community service projects throughout Cape May County performed by these Eagle Scouts included:
Roger P. Portewig – Enhancement of the landscape and installation of a beautiful garden dedicated to our founding Troop Master, Leader Gene at the West Cape May Fire Hall.
Kane B. Daly – Designed and led the construction of a migratory songbird garden in the Stone Hard Bird Sanctuary. The project provides for natural resource protection and education.
William G. Kelly – Enhanced the landscaping. He Designed and led the construction of a sign promoting awareness of the needs at the Children’s Fresh Air Home in North Wilwood serving as a respite for underprivileged youth.
The Scouts will formally receive their Eagle Scout citations at a special Court of Honor to be held on April 29, 2012, at the West Cape May Fire Hall.
