County Student Named Outstanding Safety Patroller of the Year by AAA

Safety Patroller

By Press Release

VILLAS – Alyssa Lemmon, sixth grader at Charles Sandman Consolidated School in the Lower Township Elementary School District, was recognized recently for being named Outstanding School Safety Patroller of the Year by AAA Mid-Atlantic’s Foundation for Safety and Education.  Miss Lemmon, along with 10 other area students awarded were chosen for their leadership, dependability, academic strength, promptness and industriousness.
The award ceremony was held May 3, 2016 at the Four-Points restaurant by Sheraton at 9461 Roosevelt Blvd, in Philadelphia where Guest Presenter, Sue Serio, Weather Anchor and host of “Good Day Philadelphia” for Fox 29, on behalf of the Mid-Atlantic Foundation, awarded each patroller with a plaque and a $100 Visa gift card.
AAA School Safety Patrols play an extraordinarily important role in ensuring the safety of hundreds of thousands of school children daily throughout the AAA Mid-Atlantic region.  For over 90 years, AAA Mid-Atlantic has sponsored and provided major support for the AAA School Safety Patrol by supplying training materials, recognition programs for service, and patrol equipment, including the familiar badge and belt.  AAA School Safety Patrols direct children, not traffic. As school-age leaders in traffic safety, patrol members teach other students about traffic safety on a peer-to-peer basis. They also serve as role models for younger children.  Patrols complete training in traffic safety so they can protect students from the hazards of crossing roads and highways on their way to and from school; assist bus drivers in safely transporting students to and from school; teach fellow students about traffic safety; and serve other leadership functions under the direction of school officials.
