CAPE MAY – Bob Craft, a member of Boy Scout Troup #76 out of Sea Isle City, completed his Eagle Scout Project by restoring and beautifying an area outside of Hangar #1 at the Naval Air Station Wildwood, Aviation Museum.
Under the supervision of scout leader Mike Jargowski, and organized with the help of Dr. Joseph E. Salvatore and former curator Nina Ranalli, Craft worked on a proposal for the repair and repainting of a concrete platform that used to be the hangar’s loading docks.
Craft also organized fundraising efforts to pay for a contractor to repair the existing concrete pad outside, paint and supplies. Craft and his fellow scouts returned on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a day of service, to paint the concrete structure, add stones to the border and clean up the surrounding area.
Boy Scouts who also participated in Craft’s Eagle Scout project, were: Chris Orsini, Jake Bryan, Mike Bryan, Christian Wolfe, Spencer Hughes, Chris Bailey, Ben Jargowski, Greg Rerdon, Forrest Wan, William Poole and John Massari. The project was also supervised and supported by: Mike and Valerie Jargowski, Dean Orsini, John Masseri, Norma Poole and Bob and Winnie Winters-Craft.
The Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum is located in Historic Hangar #1 at the Cape May Airport, New Jersey. Cape May Airport was formerly Naval Air Station Wildwood, which served as a World War II dive-bomber training center. The museum is dedicated to the 42 airmen who perished while training at Naval Air Station Wildwood between 1943 and 1945.
