Aurora Fehrle was a member of the Sea Isle community who passed away in July three years ago from breast cancer. She is survived by her husband, Roger, and their four children, Katherine, Joseph, John Paul, and Jacob.
According to a release, she was very active in the community, a member of the Sea Isle City Public School’s PTA, volunteer at the Recreation Department, and member of the Municipal Alliance Coordinators.
Fehrle also played a huge role in the building of the Play by the Bay playground. She took the initiative of coordinating the Play by the Bay Project in 1993, and was very instrumental in getting donations for the new playground.
The goal was to raise $85,000, but with Fehrle’s help over $100,000 was raised for the project.
The playground was dedicated to her on Aug. 8, 2006 to honor her name for all her commitment to the project. Construction for the project began Oct. 7, 1993 and the playground was completed five days later on October 12.
The unveiling ceremony will correspond with the completion of the playground. The ceremony is also held during October, since it is National Breast Cancer Awareness month.
