Action News Sports Anchor Gary Papa Dies

PHILADELPHIA— Action News sports director Gary Papa, 54, died at 2:57 p.m. on Friday, June 19 at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, in Philadelphia, more than five years after explaining to viewers that he was losing his hair due to prostate cancer.
Papa came to Action News in April of 1981. Gary’s first report was from Milwaukee, where the Sixers were playing the Bucks in the NBA playoffs.
Papa leaves behind his wife Kathleen, his two sons Tucker and Nathaniel, of course his Action News family.
