LOWER TOWNSHIP – Lower Township’s bay, beaches and roadways will be the backdrop to the fifth annual Escape the Cape Triathlon June 4.
As athletes begin their race with a 12-foot leap from the Cape – May Lewes ferry, thousands of spectators will line the race course, from the starting point at the ferry to the finish line on the terminal’s boardwalk.
“I want people to know that in Lower Township, we are home to world class athletes, world class events and we are doing things at the highest level,” said Stephen DelMonte, the race’s creator and Founder/CEO of DelMoSports Inc. “DelMoSports is honored and proud to host the 5th Annual Escape the Cape Triathlon presented by Inspira Health Network on June 4, 2017 at the Cape May Lewes Ferry Terminal in beautiful Lower Township, NJ. Without the support of the community and its officials this event would not be possible. Thank you for allowing us to showcase the beauty of your town while promoting an active and healthy lifestyle through the sport of Triathlon.”
Residents, spectators and motorists are asked to be mindful of a change in traffic patterns and road closures during the race. In the weeks leading up to the event, DelMonte said that mailer will be sent to Lower Township and Cape May residents with details about road closure times and course maps. Additionally he said police officers will be distributing flyer to residents who are along the race course route and a reverse 911 call will be going out to Lower Township residents with race reminders and information.
A DelMoSports Elite Events app can be downloaded from your smartphone and provide all the events details right at your fingertips. There is even live tracking to following participants on the course.
DelMonte noted that many Lower Township residents along the triathlon’s course have a prime seat to cheer on the athletes, many make signs and show their support.
“I know they appreciate all that support,” he said.
The event weekend begins June 3 with a health and wellness expo and kids fun run. Please note that parking for those events will be held at the North Cape May shopping center.
June 4, athletes will begin the USA Triathlon sanctioned event by leaping ten feet from the MV Twin Capes ferry vessel into the Delaware Bay and swimming ashore, continues with a bike course on scenic roadways and ends with a run to the finish line. The event will consist of three separate races taking place simultaneously. The Sprint Triathlon consists of a .35-mile swim, 10–mile bike, and 5k run. The International Triathlon will consist of a one-mile swim, 20-mile bike and five-mile run, and the International Aquabike consisting of a one-mile swim and 20-mile bike.
