The Episcopal Church of the Advent at Washington and Franklin Streets in Cape May presents a traditional choral evensong service at 4:00 p.m. April 17. Advent’s choir will be joined by the choir of Cape May First Presbyterian Church and friends under the direction of Carol Obligado. Choral settings will include the works of Thomas Attwood Walmisley, W. Lawes, and C.V. Stanford. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. For information, please call the church office at 609-884-3065.
“Evensong” is a traditional set of prayers and scripture lessons set to music and sung largely by the choir. The service has been in use since the Sixteenth Century in the Anglican tradition. The Rev’d Dr. John Mitchell, Rector of the Advent noted that the service is “simple and over the centuries has appealed to those who want a time to reflect or simply to pray. The tradition has appealed to those who enjoy the music or want a time to be still.”
This service of Evensong is offered as part of a regular series of monthly Sunday Afternoon events at Church of the Advent.
Cape May – Governor Murphy says he doesn't know anything about the drones and doesn't know what they are doing but he does know that they are not dangerous. Does anyone feel better now?
