DENNIS TOWNSHIP – Dennis Township third grade students recently competed in the Litterbug Lounge contest as part of a series of Earth Day activities to raise awareness of and promote recycling.
Students were challenged to create a unique creature for display in the Litterbug Lounge in the multipurpose room.
These science projects were judged on effort, creativity and the use of recycled materials. Students also wrote essays describing and explaining their creatures and the importance of recycling.
Students were encouraged to use materials like cans, bottles, newspapers, soda tabs, etc., to create their creatures.
Lisa Salimbene, representing the Dennis Township Environmental Commission, judged the students’ creations.
“I was looking for projects that used recycled materials in creative ways,” she explains. She thinks there were a number of wonderful projects and says she had a tough time picking the winners.
The student winners of the competition were Alexandria Connerton, Tyler Fox, Marty Meers, Eliza Pappas, Angelina Pettit and Zack Ryan.
The event was organized by teachers Alison Curvan and Shannon Allen.
