ATLANTIC CITY – Although Constitution Day was Sept. 17, to mark the 228th anniversary of the signing of the document, a celebration of the event will take place Sept. 24 from 3 to 4 p.m. in the Atlantic County Civil Courts Building, 1201 Bacharach Blvd., Atlantic City in Courtroom 3A.
The program, “Constitutional Conversation: Constitutional Flexibility,” will be hosted by the Atlantic County Bar Association along with the Atlantic/Cape May Vicinage.
Remarks will be offered by Assignment Judge Julio Mendez while Joseph Levin, president of the Atlantic County Bar Association will be moderator.
Panelists will include retired Appellate Division Judge Michael Winkelstein, Superior Court Judge Bernard E. DeLury and Municipal Court Judge Elaine B. Frick.
The program is free and open to the public.
In his message regarding Constitution Day, Judge Glenn A. Grant, acting administrative director of the N.J. Courts wrote: “While we proudly celebrate July 4 as our nation’s birthday, our Constitution is viewed as the country’s birth certificate. Revolutionary for its time our constitution has served as the foundation for America’s democracy and a role model for countries around the globe.
“While Independence Day serves as a reminder of as to how our country began; our Constitution is representative of who we are as a nation; identifying the framework for how we are to live together as citizens.
“Through the Bill of Rights, subsequent amendments and legal interpretations of its provisions we have worked towards the inalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness a reality for all of America’s citizens.”
