County’s 4-H Fair an annual event

By On Deck Staff

The 4-H Fair and Chicken Bar-B-Que has been an annual event and family tradition in Cape May County for over 60 years.
The celebration will take place, July 16, 17 and 18 at the 4-H Fairgrounds, Court House-South Dennis Road in Cape May Court House.
The Fair will feature 4-H project displays, small animal and livestock shows and exhibits, horse shows, live entertainment, commercial exhibitors, amusement rides, games, great food, and interesting and informative demonstrations.
The barbecued chicken dinner will be served all three evenings of the fair from 5 to 8 p.m. by the Cape May County Board of Agriculture.
Friday’s special menu includes a choice of filet of flounder or chicken. Cost is $10 for adults and $6 for children. Tickets are available prior to the fair at the Rutgers Cooperative Extension office, 355 Court House – South Dennis Rd., or during the event on the 4-H fairgrounds beginning at 4 p.m.
Public hours for the fair are noon to 9 p.m. each day. General admission to the fair is free, as is public parking and shuttle service to the 4-H fairgrounds from the official fair parking area at the Cape May County Technical High School, exit 11 on the east side of the Garden State Parkway on Moore Road.
Shuttle buses run from noon through closing at approximately every 15 minutes to transport fair goers to and from the event. Buses are fully handicapped accessible and air-conditioned.
New this year, there will also be limited, premium parking available in the Atlantic Cape Community College’s parking lot next door to the fairgrounds with a suggested $5 donation.
The 4-H Fair is the major fund raising effort of the 4-H Foundation, Inc. It provides a showplace for the project work and accomplishments of the youth members of Rutgers Cooperative Extension’s 4-H Youth Development Program and a fun, family oriented community gathering. The event is planned, managed, and operated by volunteers, 4-H members, and their parents and friends, and includes numerous agencies and organizations from throughout Cape May County.
Applications are still available for exhibit space. If you have a commercial concession, non-profit fundraiser or educational display, contact Rutgers Cooperative Extension, 609-465-5115, ext. 656.
