COURT HOUSE – Four Cape May County 4-H members attended the State 4-H Small Animal Educational Symposium, hosted by the state 4-H Small Animal Project Advisory Council, Feb. 22 in Gloucester County.
The symposium is an annual event in its seventh year that offers 4-H’ers an opportunity to advance their knowledge and skills in topics related to poultry, reptiles, small animals, cavy and rabbits.
In addition, the event provides a venue to meet 4-H members from around the
state.
Cape May County 4-H members joined more than 70 4-H participants representing 12 counties. Local participants were Hayley McLaughlan, Pitchforks & Buckets, Caileigh Schalick, Whinny Pigs, Emma Gotwals, Pitchforks & Buckets, and Christy Gotwals, Pitchforks & Buckets parent.
“We are excited that 4-H members and a 4-H volunteer leader from Cape May County had an opportunity to take part in this valuable educational experience and we look forward to them sharing what they learned with 4-H’ers in our county,” stated Linda Horner, Cape May County 4-H program coordinator.
Educational and competitive events held at the symposium included: 4-H Rabbit Hopping Exhibition and the 4-H Small Animal Project Art Show.
Workshop topics included: rabbit breeding, nutrition, showmanship, disease, judging, and breeds; egg types, structure, grading, and nutrition; breeds, varieties, care, and showing small animals; reptile care, management and reptilian diversity; poultry care, management, anatomy, and breeds.
