COURT HOUSE – If the public notices the Cape May County Sheriff and Correction Officers look a little different this month it is because those officers are participating in “No Shave November.”
During November officers are permitted to grow facial hair as they raise money for Rylee Crowley, who has a rare form of child leukemia.
Crowley is the daughter of Ocean City Police Officer Matthew Crowley and the niece of Cape May County Correctional Officer James Crowley.
“Our officers must shave every day for their job. This gives them a break during this month and helps raise money for a great cause. Each officer is required to raise or contribute at least $50 to the Rylee Crowley Fund for Ocean City PBA in order to participate.
Besides contributing themselves, they are actively raising money for Rylee,” stated to Sheriff Gary Schaffer, in a release.
The officers approached Schaffer who immediately agreed with the fundraising program for Crowley. This situation has been a strain on the Crowley family both emotionally and financially, Schaffer stated.
“There seems to be a healthy competition between the Sheriff Officers and the Correction Officers as to who can raise more money for Rylee. I would encourage any member of the community, if they know a Sheriff or Correction Officer to help them financially raise money for Rylee. It would gratefully be appreciated,” stated Schaffer.
Information on how to contribute to the Raylee Crowley Fund can be obtained by calling Sheriff Officer Lt. Scott Knoedler at 463-5136 of Correction Officer Capt. Chuck Magill at 465-1258.
