CLERMONT – Pre-K through eighth-grade students at Bishop McHugh Regional Catholic School turned their annual field day into a lemonade stand to raise funds and awareness for childhood cancer.
Students held their fifth annual Alex’s Lemonade Stand May 31. They created and decorated the lemonade stand which was set out for the school’s field day.
Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation is a national fundraising movement created by a young cancer patient wanting to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. Since its inception in 2000, over $140 million has been raised.
Students participated in outdoor activities ranging from water volleyball, Hula Hoop contests, jump-rope contests and lots of other activities.
Youngsters ran to the lemonade stand quenching their thirst and showing support for their schoolmate, Brett Staino, a childhood cancer survivor and Hero Ambassador for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.
Staino’s mother, Shannon Staino, and teachers decked out in lemonade shirts and face tattoos passed out hundreds of glasses of lemonade to students.
Staino stated, “We will help any way we can to raise funds and spread awareness, hoping that one day no child or family has to endure such pain and heartache.”
Bishop McHugh’s fifth annual Alex’s Lemonade Stand raised over $1,300 for a total in the school’s five years participation over $8,000.
Students collected cash donations and did online fundraising promoting awareness for their lemonade stand and childhood cancer.
Donations are still being collected online at www.alexslemonade.org/mypage/1320889 and the students are hoping their fundraising efforts soar even higher.

Cape May – I am enjoying the meltdown from so many Leftists on president elect Trumps picks for his cabinet and their stating that he is bringing on people with zero experience in government. Yes, you nailed it…
