WOODBINE – Woodbine’s Sustainable Jersey Green Team has partnered with Cape May County RSVP to establish a Community Garden at the Woodbine Community Center, 812 Longfellow Street, Woodbine.
Home Depot donated the lumber and soil and other materials and built the raised beds for the garden.
Woodbine seniors, who use the center, are caring for the plants as they grow throughout this summer and into the fall.
Benches made of sustainable materials were donated through the Green Team. These have been repurposed from another site.
Resident Curt Heaton, husband of Experience Works trainee Liz Heaton, is anchoring these benches to supports for better utilization.
A table to accompany these benches was donated by the St. Casimir’s Thrift Shop.
Plants include tomatoes, bell peppers, and various herbs, such as spearmint for tea for all to enjoy. Liz Heaton also donated plants including peppers and herbs that are normally grown in Puerto Rico so as to have something familiar to all ethnicities.
“I would like to thank Home Depot for their donation of their time and materials for this project,” added Mayor Pikolycky.
