OCEAN CITY – Flotilla 81 of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will be sponsoring a new Life Jacket Loaner Station that will be located seasonally at the 10th Street Wharf in Ocean City. This station is the Eagle Scout project of Nicholas Theis of Boy Scout Troop #32. This station will provide a limited number of life jackets for loan to boaters beginning July 29. This station will be managed by the Ocean City Flotilla of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. American Legion Post # 524, Ocean City and Holiday & Leonard, General Contractors have also lent their support for this project.
“Statistically, we know that the single most important factor in preventing drownings while boating is the wearing of properly fitted Life jackets,” said Ocean City Auxiliary Flotilla Commander Bob Babezki. “This site was chosen due to its central location in the boating waterways behind Ocean City.” There will be ceremony on Saturday morning, July 29 at 10 a.m. at the 10th Street Wharf. The public is invited to attend,
The life jacket loaner program is a supplement program for those who forgot their life jackets or whose children have outgrown their old ones. Boaters should not relay on this program as their sole source for their life jackets. If a life jacket is borrowed from the loaner program, it should be returned the same day it is borrowed.
