Celebrate Cape May’s 400th Anniversary

By On Deck Staff

The City of Cape May and the 400th Anniversary Celebration Committee will stage a grand 400th Anniversary Parade August 29 beginning at 11 a.m. with line up starting at 10 a.m. at Pittsburgh and Beach aves.
The parade route is Beach Avenue from Pittsburgh Avenue to Patterson Avenue with the review stand at Convention Hall.
This parade commemorates Henry Hudson’s discovery of Cape Island in 1609 aboard his sailing vessel “The Half Moon.”
Mr. Charles “Bud” Swain and Patricia Mulligan, the 400th Anniversary celebration king and queen, respectively, will serve as the Grand Marshals.
The parade will feature many outstanding performing groups, including the United States Coast Guard Band and Color Guard, The Fralinger String Band, The South Philadelphia String Band, The Quaker City String Band, The North Wildwood Pipe and Drum Band, the Bonsal Blues String Band, Lower Cape May Regional Marching Band, and the Hobo Band, just to name a few.
Anyone wishing to participate, call Cape May Civic Affairs at 609-884-9565. The event will be rain or shine.
