Santa and his elves have been decorating the Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St., with thousands of lights and Christmas decorations for Cape May’s Holiday Preview Weekend, Nov. 20-22, sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts (MAC).
Start celebrating the holidays with a weekend of festive tours and food and wine events that are sure to get you into the Christmas spirit.
Come to the grounds of the Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St., for the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21. Old Saint Nick arrives at 7 p.m. and flips the switch to light the 60-foot Christmas tree.
Children can meet with Santa and bring their letters; then enjoy caroling and warm beverages with freshly baked cookies in the Carriage House Tearoom & Café.
The decorated Physick Estate will be open for free, self-guided tours 6 to 8 p.m. This event is free to the public.
The weekend is packed with a variety of holiday special:
“An Old-Fashioned Christmas: Holiday Traditions through the Years” exhibit opens Friday and runs through Jan. 3.
The Looking Glass Mysteries, “Arsenic and Plum Pudding” Friday and Saturday, a weekend adventure looking for clues and explanations.
Cape May Wine Weekend combines a Wine Tasting Dinner, Winery Cellar Tour and Wine Tasting Class for a weekend of total indulgence.
Join the chef from the Mad Batter for a quick class on cooking for the holidays on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 1 p.m., includes a three-course lunch. Admission is $45 (tax and gratuity included).
The sweetest holiday event of them all is the Chocolate Fantasy Buffet on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 2 p.m. at the Washington Inn, 801 Washington St.
Breakfast with Santa on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Inn of Cape May, 7 Ocean St. Christmas lists are accepted and there are special treats for the kids.
Ghosts of Christmas Past Trolley Rides, Santa’s Trolley Rides with Mrs. Claus, visit Cape May’s Designer Show House at Christmas and the 1879 Physick Estate with all its holiday finery in authentic Victorian style.
