OCEAN CITY – The Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce is honored to announce the recipients of the Chamber’s 2016 Citizen of the Year Award and Outstanding Business and Beautification Awards. The awards will be presented at the Chamber’s dinner Tuesday, Nov. 15 at the Ocean City Yacht Club.
This year, the Citizen of the Year Award will be presented to William (Bill) McMahon, III. Mr. McMahon is president of McMahon Insurance Agency. He has dedicated many years as an Assistant Scoutmaster for Ocean City’s Troop 32, is on the board of the NJ Professional Insurance Agents & is a board member and Past President (2014-2016) of the Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce.
McMahon is very active in Saint Maximillian Kolbe Roman Catholic Church in Marmora and Bishop McHugh Regional Catholic School in Dennis Township. Each year he also participates in the Covenant House Sleep Out to Support Homeless Youth. The event invites area executives to raise money and awareness for the Covenant House’s mission to provide shelter and services to young people rescued from the street.
Bill resides in Upper Township with his wife Anita and is blessed to have four wonderful daughters. He enjoys spending almost all his free time with his family having fun and enjoying life.
The Business Renovation/Improvement Award will be presented to Jon & Patty’s Coffee Bar and Bistro for their new second floor dining room, 7th Street Surf Shop for the complete rehab of their boardwalk store, and Atilis Gym for the transformation of their building into a two-floor gym.
Island Grill will be awarded the Outstanding Landscaping/Signage Award for the new 25 ft. by 8 ft. mural at their restaurant. Local artist Aaron Bogushefsky was commissioned to paint the playful mural featuring the restaurant owners, the Yoa Family, their boat and other local points of interest.
10th Street Wharf will receive the Business New Construction Award. They are the only marina in Ocean City that provides fuel, boat slips for rent and transient dockage. They built a new bulk head, built a new fuel system and remediated a polluted property.
The Outstanding New Business Award will be presented to Encounters on the Ocean City Boardwalk and Hearth and Sole in Downtown Ocean City. Encounters is an exciting new attraction with super-spy challenges, perplexing mazes, and adrenaline-boosting excitement. Hearth and Sole is Downtown Ocean City’s newest destination for footwear, fashion and furnishings.
This year’s Outstanding Civic, Community, Non-Profit Organization Award will be presented to Ocean City Education Foundation (OCEF). Since its inception in 2007, OCEF has provided over $100,000 in teacher grants to the Ocean City Schools. OCEF was also the driving force in building the Observatory at the OC High School.
Henry’s Landmark Jewelers will receive the Outstanding Use of Technology Award for their active social media accounts.
The Environmentally Friendly Award will be presented Duke O’ Fluke for providing nature tours sponsored by Wetlands Institute at Ocean City Bayside Center.
The Outstanding Service to the Community Award will be presented to Ocean City Board of Realtors for their fundraising activities benefitting Ocean City organizations.
Special Awards will be presented for milestone anniversaries. These businesses include: Crazy Susan’s – 10 years, Shore Clean Auto Care Center – 20 years, Euroline Designe – 25 years, Ta-Dah – 25 years, 7th Street Surf Shop – 30 years, Bookateria – 40 years, Brown’s – 40 years, Yesterday’s – 40 Years, Fudge Kitchen – 45 years, Atlantic Cape Community College – 50 Years, Manco and Manco – 60 years and Ocean City Home Bank – 130 Years.
