CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE – Wildwood Golf and Country Club announced today that is has been purchased by The Cape May Shore Club, LLC, a collective of existing members investing funds, which satisfied all club debt and member liabilities.
Wildwood Golf and Country Club has been one of South Jersey’s best golf venues since 1916 and was also a favorite course of Arnold Palmer during his days at the Cape May Coast Guard Station. Now in its second century, the club is transitioning to keep current with the changing desires of golfers and private club members.
“While it is important to observe and respect certain traditions and our club’s great history,” said Bob Noel, WGCC’s President. “The world is changing and members and their families wish to enjoy their leisure time differently. After considerable research, consultation from industry experts and member feedback, we embarked upon this evolutionary process to save our club.”
The club hired a professional club management firm, Princeton-based Morningstar Golf and Hospitality, LLC, to work with the existing management staff and direct the club’s operations. Together with Morningstar, the club is planning moderate renovation and improvement projects to improve the clubhouse, ballroom, lobby, grounds and golf course. To meet the changing needs of members, the club will also create new membership options, such as the ability for families to add children (up to college-age) to their membership at no additional charge.
With these structural and managerial changes will come an official unveiling of the club’s new name—The Shore Club—sometime in spring 2018. The club will remain a private golf course.
The Shore Club will also be reinstituting a one-time, non-refundable initiation fee for new members that will help fund ongoing capital reinvestment, but is waiving the fee for those who join by March 31. The Shore Club’s beautiful bay location, quick four-hour rounds, friendly professional staff, shared work spaces and lively social atmosphere make it an attractive club designed for families.
“The Shore Club is a casual, relaxed environment where the bartenders know your favorite drink, the golf pros know your swing and the conditions on the course are always pristine,” said Matt Galvin. “Quick rounds on the course allow for golfers to return to the beach and enjoy precious time with their families.”
