Customers come from beyond the Jersey Shore to visit the restaurant. Generations of vacationing beach-goers and locals alike stop into The Dragon House to enjoy appetizers and entrees. Manager Henry Lau said the key to their success is offering taste and quality of food, which is consistent. Head Chef Lee has been in the kitchen for 31 of the 60 years the restaurant has been open.
From the moment you walk into the restaurant, you are greeted by the many long-term staff members. The feel and experience is reminiscent of “Cheers,” as your name is known and you are treated like family!
The menu at The Dragon House offers the best of Chinese favorites under the Chef’s Suggestions. The most popular item is General Tso’s chicken, which is a classic dish of crispy, coated chicken in brown sauce.
“We consider ourselves very lucky to have a chef who cooks Cantonese style, since the style has changed in the restaurant business,” Henry said. “Other places require fast and easy but we try to keep the same cooking style as 60 years ago.”
Visitors cannot go wrong with any of the appetizers, especially the popular Dragon House egg roll! Other favorites include fried wontons and scallion pancakes – nicknamed the Chinese pizza, it is a must-try choice which has become a crowd favorite. If you have to try all the appetizers, pick the Pu Pu Platter, complete with an assortment of favorites.
A delicious soup not to be missed is the Wor Wonton, which means “everything wonton,” containing the classic wonton dumpling, a large mix of vegetables and meats.
For the main course, choose the Grand Mariner Prawn, a longtime favorite featuring jumbo shrimp lightly cooked until crispy, topped with their outstanding Grand Mariner sauce and homemade honey walnuts. The shrimp come beautifully presented on the plate, and every bite is mouthwatering and satisfying.
Every meal served at The Dragon House is a delicious indication of their high quality and fresh ingredients.
“We work hard to keep up with the quality and food freshness,” Henry said.
Another excellent chef’s suggestion is the Jumbo Shrimp and Steak Kew, featuring delicious New York strip steak trimmed in small squares and jumbo shrimp sautéed in a house wine sauce, and served with mixed vegetables.
